Next Generation Enterprise Solutions

New real-time event-driven and data-driven solutions are possible because of the convergence of IoT and proximity sensors , Intelligent Edge Services, Mobility and Cloud Services.

Whilst many organisations are only just getting started on transforming their business and operational processes using mobility, a new generation of event-driven and data-driven solutions is being made possible through the recent availability of very capable, low cost IoT technologies. These can be used together with emergent cloud-based software platforms that allow them to be harnessed into real-life bespoke solutions without having to rely on specific products from specialist software or solution vendors.

Employee-facing, mobile enterprise apps are a hot topic of conversation, and more than that, numerous organizations are now embracing them. Of respondents to Ovum’s multi-market employee mobility survey 2014, 51.3% said that their employer already provides access to mobile productivity apps through an enterprise app store or portal.

Whether providing for corporate or personally owned devices, it is apparent that businesses are starting to look at mobile apps as a way to improve working practices.

However, as examined in Ovum recent report Harnessing the Real Transformational Power of Mobile Enterprise Apps, not all apps are created equal: some are “Heroes,” performing a task that benefits employees across the organization and gaining huge popularity as a result, while others are “Soldier” apps with a more specific focus. We believe that while there is always a place for Hero apps, it is the more numerous Soldier apps that will eventually provide widespread value and transform business processes for everyone.

This paper examines the opportunities and challenges that mobile devices can bring to organisations, and presents a compelling argument why an architectural, ordered approach that keeps pace with user expectations, device capabilities and web/could services is the only long-term sustainable strategy for most large organisations.
